I'm currently staying at an old cottage in Co Sligo in the West of Ireland, enjoying a relaxing few days with family and friends.
This beautiful May morning i've taken my morning cuppa and laptop outside to the back of the cottage where I'm currently looking at a beautiful green vista of grassy fields, windswept hedges and tall un-leaved trees. Many of the tall old trees have covered trunks of tight twisting ivy using the tree height to reach ever more skyward.
It's a beautiful typical irish morning and the air is light and full of energy. As the sun begins to crawl westward it casts long shadows across the open fields. The birds sing joyfully and it echoes around in the stillness. In the distance I can hear cars rumbling along the road but the noise doesn't detract from the scene and feels like a reassuring heartbeat to this magnificent view.
Bunches of beautiful yellow daffodils nestle along the hedges and are dispersed with yellow and red tulips, adding a sharp flash of colour to the yellow and green backdrop.
The air is alive with energy of the day to come and the sound of nearby cattle drifts on the air. The grass is bejewelled with yellow dandelion flowers and the gentle breeze brings a stirring life to everything it touches.
The view encapsulates a conundrum for me: where all seems to be so at peace and yet so full of life. Just sitting in the stillness allows me to feel and tap into the great energy bursting froth from all around me. The chorus of bird song constantly changes as each species takes up and continues the song allowing me to be slowly drawn along into it. A dog barking punctuates through now and again but all is so in harmony you don't stop and recognise it at the time.
The view across the fields allows my eyes to rest on the distant mountains. Blue and hazy in the morning light. I get a sense of looking into days of old as viewing the mists of time. Dark clouds roll across them pushed behind by the strong ocean winds and depositing their heavy load ahead of them. The scene is so magical that I wish I could paint and capture this moment in time and take it home with me.
A thundering nearby tractor brings me back to reality.
I breath in this beautiful clean air and soak up the pure positive energy from all around me before finishing my tea and returning in doors for a hearty breakfast.
